As I’ve said previously, I will be teaching a dual credit summer class this year, and I’ve decided to try Schoology as my LMS. I love Edmodo, but was having some issues with stability and certain features.
Below I’ve listed some of the great features of Schoology…some of which are available on Edmodo, as well.
- Discussion
- The Discussion Board feature is so wonderful on Schoology! The best part of this feature is most likely that teachers can grade students discussion without having to write down the score and exit to another screen. Students can also directly comment on each other’s posts!
- Resources and Folder
- This section is also great because it allows teachers to compile resources and choose to share them with their students.
- “Pages”
- This may be the feature that most excites me about Schoology…for each unit, I can create an introductory page that describes the content to be studied, assignments and activities, and so much more! This is a characteristic of Schoology that I believe makes the entire LMS more user friendly!
- Updates
- Teachers can post brief updates on the course homepage and automatically send that information to their students…very similar to Edmodo, but with more add-on options
- Tests
- One of the greatest features about Schoology tests is that teachers can choose to have specific questions remain ungraded, or without a point value. If you like to add bonus questions to your tests, this feature will be very helpful for you!
The Schoology LMS just seems cleaner and more user friendly, which are both oh so important in a classroom environment!
Watch for more about my Schoology experience and blended learning, coming soon!
