Are you looking for new ideas and tools to use in your classroom? Check out Sophia’s professional development options for teachers!
We teach in an ever growing and changing digital age. In our undergraduate training, many of us weren’t adequately trained on using technology in our classrooms, other than a personal computer. I remember being “trained” on using the SmartBoard…training which focused around our ability to play games on the SmartBoard! I had ONE educational technology class in my teacher training program, and I’m sure many practicing teachers have had a similar experience.
Many undergraduate institutions are adopting a 1:1 program to adequately train teachers to properly use technology, which is great!
But, what about the rest of us? Those of us teaching right now have little to no time to learn new strategies. Professional Development days are most likely consumed by other activities and are few and far between. So, what should we do? We have to stay current…check out online professional development programs!
I’ve discussed how teachers can use multiple digital media tools for professional development, but I recently stumbled upon Sophia, which provides training in a variety of areas geared toward teachers currently in the field.
I’m REALLY interested in the Flipped Classroom model, and am always looking for more information about this teaching strategy. Through Sophia, teachers can view a series of tutorials on implementing the Flipped model, demonstrate that they’ve understood the topic, and then receive a certificate marking their completion of the course.
Sophia currently offers two other professional development programs, one on iPads in the other on creating Virtual Classrooms, both of which look AMAZING!
These are FREE professional development tools that are great for teachers currently working in the field…they are self-paced tutorials with real classroom applications. I encourage you to check it out!
Sophia also has other great resources and tools available through their website. Check back for more on Sophia, coming soon!
