I recently stumbled upon a true gamified student response system…Kahoot! Have you tried it?
Before I get too excited…Kahoot is a game based student response system for classroom use. Teachers simply create a FREE account and select the type of “Kahoot” they want to create:
- quiz (allows teachers to create multiple choice quizzes with an unlimited number of questions)
- survey (allows teachers to gather opinions)
- discussion (allows teachers to gather opinions and FACILITATE discussion!)
Once the teacher has created the activity, students can access the Kahoot at kahoot.it, and will enter the game code which will be projected from the teacher’s computer. Students will then be prompted to enter a nickname…which can be scary because the students create their own name. Then, let the game begin!
I tried this activity with my students today and they LOVED it! As the bell rang, students were frantically trying to choose the correct answer and begging to do this activity again. Such a wonderful problem to have!!
Check out my screencast about Kahoot below.

This is yet another fantastic tool that we can use in a 1:1 classroom. Kahoot works on a variety of different platforms, including iOS and Chrome…basically, any device that can access an Internet browser.
I hope you give Kahoot a try!
Thanks for reading 🙂

Kahoot is fantastic. The biggest reason is that it looks like fun to the students. I also like that it fosters developing positive device use in a BYOD atmosphere.

Introduced Kahoot to my students a couple of months ago and my students LOVE it. I can't recommend it highly enough. My only problem has been that student's get booted out of the game on a frequent enough basis that using it for formal quizzes hasn't worked. We have a new wireless system in our building and the fault may be in our network. I'd love to hear from others regarding this issue. Kudos to the people behind Kahoot.it.

Looking to use it this fall. I will update on this post (and on my own blog).

Hi Kevin, do you still experience this problem, or have you been able to optimise your wifi? You can visit test.kahoot.it and also e-mail support(at)Kahoot.it and we can assist. Happy Kahooting!
