Hi!! Happy back-to-school season! Super quick post to share a few ideas that I plan to use in my high school classroom over the first few days of school!
Would You Rather…?
Get students moving and talking with these history and government-themed Would You Rather? questions. Students choose statements and move to different corners of the room based on their choice. Remind them to be ready to explain their choice! It’s an easy way to get conversations started while sneakily assessing what students already know 🙂
Two Truths and A Lie
Another fun way to assess students’ prior knowledge, Two Truths and A Lie asks students to determine which Social Studies themed statement is the lie … a few are easy, but some are tricky!
Human Timeline
Designed for Social Studies teachers, but usable in any content area, the Human Timeline activity asks students to work with their peers to place themselves in chronological order based on events they choose. Elevate this activity by asking students to determine which of the events is most important to American History, World History, American Government, etc., which events caused other events, and more! Again, a super fun activity to learn what your students know before you begin instruction!
Sound like fun? If you’d like to use these in your classroom, click here to access the file! If you use an activity, please let me know how it goes!
I hope you have a fantastic year!
Thanks for reading 🙂
