This begs the question…what is Classroom?
From Google’s brief and surprisingly vague description, Classroom is a Google App and Learning Management System. Teachers who use Classroom can easily organize, share, assign, collect, and grade student work. Classroom will give teachers the option of sharing individual copies of documents, or provide each student with their own copy of assignments. Classroom also creates individual folders for students, which allows them to organize their assignments all in one place. Awesome!
Classroom will also provide students with an “assignments page” which will allow them to see what due dates are approaching and what assignments are due. This feature reminds me of the dashboard page of my Blackboard learning suite which was used during my graduate work. This may also eliminate the need for student planners…and even teachers creating and sharing course calendars with their students!
Check out the brief introductory video from Google below.
From the limited information available, Classroom looks like an AMAZING tool that will make our technology rich classrooms run MUCH better. Since so little information is actually available, I’m trying not to get too excited…but I can’t wait to see what Google’s Classroom has to offer!
If you’re interested in signing up for a preview of Classroom, click here to access the application link. I, like many of you wish this product would be released earlier than September! Teachers like to be ahead of the game and will most likely be unable to jump right in to a new LMS at the beginning of school!!
Maybe, Google will change their mind and release Classroom this summer! Fingers crossed!!
Thanks for reading 🙂
