Our students love social media, right? Wouldn’t it be great if we could incorporate social media in our curriculum?
Many school districts have very stringent policies regarding the use of social media. So, in most learning environments, asking students to create a Twitter or Facebook account as an historical figure is probably not feasible. Enter Twister and Fakebook!
If you haven’t checked out classtools.net, you really should! Teachers can create free games and activities for their classes, and share those activities with their students so easily. Two of my favorite activities are Twister and Fakebook. In Social Studies classes especially, these tools can be extremely helpful in engaging students in course content. Instead of writing an essay about Franklin Roosevelt, students can create a Fakebook page that describes the former president’s life and accomplishments.Twister feeds can serve as a great opening activity or discussion starter. Check out the FDR Twister feed image…this took about 2 minutes to make!
The SMS Generator is also great! Students can describe a conversation that may have taken place between world leaders or historical figures. Here’s a “conversation” between Hitler and FDR I created in about a minute…and it was fun! Think of the texts that would have been sent between JFK and Khrushchev!
I’ll be posting more examples from classtools.net soon! These games are fun and easy to use. Try them with your students!
Thanks for reading 🙂
