Welcome to my first post of 2016! I thought I’d share some of my classroom goals for 2016 for two reasons. First because blogging about my goals helps me reflect and actually list my goals in an achievable way, and second because writing and sharing my goals with the world (ok, I know the entire world doesn’t read my blog, but still) holds me more accountable!
Dive more into the world of gamification
- I MUST read Explore Like a Pirate. I tweeted that just this afternoon. I heard about it via Twitter…which is where I hear about most great things (Twitter or Pinterest!) and immediately recognized it as part of the Teach Like a Pirate series! Anything connected with that book HAS to be awesome! I’m ready to enhance my gamified classroom…are you with me? Check out the giveaway for this book on the bottom of the page!
Investigate and implement flipped mastery in my flipped classroom
- I’m in my second year as a flipped classroom, and so much has changed since I created and published my first instructional video. My students view and interact with the flipped videos in class instead of a “traditional” flip, where the videos are watched at home. We now use the fabulous EDpuzzle for video viewing and interaction. My only hangup with flipped mastery is ensuring that my students have adequate opportunities to practice and apply the concepts they learn. I have the technology tools at my disposal to make this happen…the only thing left to do now is, well, do it!
Share more valuable info with my students via Remind
- I often complain about not being able to use social media in my classroom…I’d love to be able to have my students follow me on Twitter!…but I am able to use the wonderful tool that is Remind. I definitely need to embrace Remind more to encourage students to interact with course content outside the brick and mortar classroom. Remind makes it possible for me to discuss information with my students from the comfort of my couch, while I’m sipping coffee and watching the State of the Union address. I
need toWILL use Remind this semester for more than just sending out announcements!
Create a resource bank of both review and extension activities for each unit in my Government class
- This goal is closely related to my Flipped Mastery goal in that this will hopefully create an even more student centered environment in my classroom. When students feel they need extra review or practice on concepts, my thought is that I can send them to these activities for help. Hopefully, this will create an awesome resource bank for my students!
Setting goals is vitally important to me as a teacher. I want to constantly feel as though I’m evolving into a better teacher and version of myself. Check back for progress on these goals 🙂
