Encouraging students to collaborate with one another is extremely important and beneficial. If you are lucky enough to have technology rich classroom environment, encouraging student collaboration can be fun and easy! Below are some tools to use to encourage online, real time collaboration with your students. Enjoy!
Padlet
This is BY FAR my favorite tool for collaboration, brainstorming, questions, and so many other uses in the classroom. Some of my favorite components of Padlet are….
- Students do not need to create a username and password! Everyone hates having to juggle a seemingly endless amount of logins!
- Teachers can moderate posts
- Teachers can share their Padlet wall as a link, embed code, or QR code!
This is a cute name for an awesome tool. AWW (A Web Whiteboard) allows teachers to create drawings and insert text. Teachers can also share the wall…just like Padlet. However, a neat feature of AWW is that teachers can save the wall as an image and upload the image virtually anywhere. This would be AWESOME for Math classes. Save the work that you did in class and post it to your website! Great for students who miss school or need extra help. (Teachers can do this with Smart Notebook tools, as well…but some of us don’t have those tools!)
I just stumbled upon this tool today! TitanPad does NOT require students to create an account to access the wall, and looks very similar to a Microsoft Word document or a Google Doc. Users have the option to bold, italicize, underline, and even
Primary Wall is VERY similar to Padlet, in that users can create a wall, and add to that wall, without having to create an account. However, creating a FREE account allows the user to modify the background, fonts, and also share their page with others. Creating an account, however, allows the teacher to moderate posts and be more in control of the wall. Click here to access the wall I created using Primary Wall!
Writeboard is very basic compared to sites like Padlet or AWW. Users can create a “writeboard,” and share it with anyone via URL. Users can modify the format of their wall by inserting codes on their board. Very simple and easy to use…but very basic. If you’d like to check out the board I created using Writeboard, click here
